Caldwell County schools have canceled classes

Caldwell County schools originally were scheduled to open this morning and let out at 11:30 a.m., but since snow and sleet already are falling the plan has changed and classes are canceled.

The National Weather Service forecast calls for snow and sleet before 3 p.m., then freezing rain, and a high temperature near 29. The total daytime ice accumulation is expected to be less than one-tenth of an inch, with another half-inch or so of snow and ice accumulation during the day. The hourly forecast for Lenoir at weather.com calls for snow until mid-afternoon, then a switch to a mix.
