ANDREWS WINS SOCON HONOR

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Holly Andrews was named the Southern Conference Player of the Month for January.

Andrews, a senior from Hudson and South Caldwell High School, averaged 22.6 points in five January games, including 34 against UNC-Greensboro.

She suffered a knee injury and missed four other games.

Andrews is averaging 19.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists for the Phoenix this season.

She also was the SoCon Player of the Month in December.

YBOA TRYOUTS AT GRANITE FALLS

GRANITE FALLS - The South Caldwell Youth Basketball Association (YBOA) will host tryouts for boys ages 10 and under Saturday, Feb. 14, 9-11 a.m. at the Granite Falls Recreation Center. For information, call Joe Barrett at 313-9642 or 962-4722.

REGISTRATION FOR HOOPS LEAGUES

LENOIR - The Lenoir Parks and Recreation Department is taking registration for 30-and-over and co-ed basketball leagues. The cost will be $350 per team for either league. The entry deadline is Friday, Feb. 6. Teams may pick up packets at Mulberry Recreation Center. For more information, contact Larry Hayes at 757-2188.

CAROLINA EXPRESS HOLD TRYOUTS

HICKORY - The Carolina Express Basketball Association (AAU/YBOA) will hold the following tryouts at Hickory High School:

€ Feb. 7 at 11:30 a.m. - 10-and-under boys and girls

€ Feb. 7-8 - 12-and-under girls at 1 p.m.; 13-and-under girls at 2:30 p.m.; 13-and-under boys at 4 p.m.; 14-and-under boys at 5:30 p.m.

KINGS CREEK OFFERS SIGNUPS

KINGS CREEK - Kings Creek Community Athletics will hold signups for baseball and girls' softball on Fridays and Saturdays through March 6 at the Kings Creek School gymnasium.

Signups on Fridays will be held from 6-8 p.m. with Saturday signups held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost for registration is $20 for boys and girls' coach-pitch ages 5-8 and $25 for Little League Baseball and softball for ages 9 - 16. Signups will require a copy of the child's birth certificate. Each child also should be accompanied by parent or legal guardian with some knowledge of child's medical information.

HAPPY VALLEY HOLDS SIGNUPS

HAPPY VALLEY - Happy Valley Little League will hold signups for baseball and girls' softball on Fridays and Saturdays through March 13 at the Happy Valley School gymnasium.

Signups on Fridays will be held from 6:30-8 p.m., with Saturday signups held from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. All new and returning players should provide a copy of their birth certificate at registration (no originals). The cost for registration is $25.

Anyone planning to play should make sure they reside within the Happy Valley league boundaries to be eligible.

HUDSON BASEBALL HOLDING REGISTRATION

HUDSON - Hudson Baseball will hold registration during February. Registration will be held Feb. 14, 21 and 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hudson Optimist Building. Participants are asked to bring a current address, phone number and birth certificate to registration. Age groups from 5 to 15 can register for the 2004 baseball season.

USSSA CLINIC TO BE OFFERED

HUDSON - A U.S.S.S.A umpires clinic will be held Saturday, Feb. 7 at Caldwell Community College at 1 p.m. For more information, call Martha at 396-6217.

GRANITE FALLS HOLDS CLASSES

GRANITE FALLS - Aerobics classes will be held at the Granite Falls Recreation Center on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from Feb. 16 to March 25 at 6 p.m.

Body sculpting class will be held on Mondays, and low impact classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

CLASSES OFFERED AT AQUATIC CENTER

LENOIR - The William B. Stronach Aquatic and Fitness Center will offer scuba diving classes March 13-April 10 from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. each day. Classes will be held each Saturday and will be hosted by The Dive Shop from Claremont.
