Caldwell County Commission Candidate Randy Church

1. Why are you seeking this office?

In light of the significant economic developments that have taken place in our community over the past ten years, the residents of Caldwell County need persons of character and integrity who will step forward with strong leadership, commonly held ideals, and a clear initiative. I am committed to work for a safe and prosperous place in which we live with our families and be proud to call it our home.

2. What makes you a qualified candidate?

Through my years of experience in public service, I have been a part of many county organizations. Those affiliations include two volunteer fire departments and a rescue squad. I have served as a law enforcement officer with both the City of Lenoir and Caldwell County Sheriff's Office. I have worked closely with the school system as I served as a resource officer and as a part time instructor with CCC&TI. These experiences have given me an opportunity to witness first hand the needs of our county and its citizens.

3. What experience will you bring?

My lifelong commitment to the community and the people of Caldwell has driven me to become the best possible person and leader I can. As Chief of Lenoir Fire Department, I was responsible for administering a budget of over two million taxpayer dollars. I was successful in keeping within the parameters of the budget while maintaining the quality services that the citizens expected and deserved. As Chief I also supervised day-to-day operations including sixty-four employees and equipment and facilities worth millions of dollars all the while being held accountable for my decisions by the city manager and the citizens of Lenoir. The experience I have gained in the almost 30 years of public service given to the community will be my single greatest asset that I bring to the position of County Commissioner.

4. What are the greatest challenges facing the office you seek?

The sound education of our children and economic development continue to be at the top of the list. Managing our county budget by controlling spending and holding those accountable for the decisions they make. We are also tasked with the responsibility of continuing to provide basic services including public safety along with our emergency services that the fire and EMS departments provide. We must identify future needs that will impact our county while looking at both our existing facilities and new construction.

5. How do you plan to deal with those challenges?

As a father and former law enforcement officer I recognize a strong personal responsibility to protect both my loved ones and yours. As your County Commissioner, I will continue my strong record of exercising that same caution and care in defending the safety of our citizens and children. I pledge to provide sound, common sense leadership that is realistic, yet proactive in our ever-changing economy, county landscape, and national arena. Now is the time to get back to the basics of providing for the needs of our citizens through decision-making based on common sense and the knowledge that the citizens of Caldwell County pay the bills!

6. What do you offer that no other candidate can?

I can offer this simpleconcept. I will base my decisions on my years of experience and the needs of our citizenry by using the common sense values that I have learned from my family and friends. The people of Caldwell County deserve the best representation possible, and I believe that I can provide the leadership necessary to accomplish the task which is at hand. I subscribe to the belief that my lifelong residency of our county, my many decades of public service, and most importantly, my deep devotion for our home and its people make the best qualified candidate. Caldwell County is a great place to live and raise a family. With vigilance, foresight, and good common sense, it will continue to be so. I am proud to call Caldwell County my home, and if given the opportunity to serve as your Commissioner, I will work to preserve its heritage and beauty for years to come.
