Shirley Reid
Mrs. Shirley Mitcham Reid, 64, of Pearl Street, Granite Falls went home to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at her residence after a brief illness. She was born July 26, 1943 in Caldwell County, North Carolina to the late Roy Mitcham and Ollievee Bolick Mitcham. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Wayne Mitcham; two sisters, Rachael Miller and Verda McCrary. Mrs. Reid was of the Baptist Faith and was baptized at the age of 13 at Center Grove Baptist Church. She loved to read, garden and most of all she loved to cook for her family. She was known best for her delicious biscuits and cakes. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Paul Jerry Reid Sr. of the home - they would have celebrated their 50th Anniversary on Nov. 15, 2008; two sons, Jerry Reid and wife Angie of Granite Falls and Eddie Reid and wife Shelby of Hudson; two daughters, Kim Bailey and husband Jeff of Hickory and Lorrie Houston and husband Roger of Taylorsville; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Jerry Mitcham of Hickory and two sisters, Violet Titus and Gaynell Bollinger both of Granite Falls. The funeral service for Mrs. Reid will be 5 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Center Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Howell and the Rev. Tom McDonald officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be her five grandsons Phillip Bailey, Chris and Justin Reid, Adam and Nicholas Houston and grandson-in-law, Jamie Wheeler.
