George Honeycutt

George Haywood “Junior” Honeycutt, 83, of Dudley Shoals Road, Granite Falls, died Friday, April 25, 2008, at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro.

He was born July 3, 1924, in Caldwell County, to the late G. Haywood Honeycutt Sr. and Nancy Smith Honeycutt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille Cottrell Honeycutt; one grandchild, Jeffrey Senechal; three sisters, Leland Tilley, Celeste Benfield and Ethel Seagle; two brothers, Bane and Wilbur Honeycutt.

He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines in WWII on a fuel transport ship. During the Korean Conflict he served in the U.S. Army Reserve with the rank of Sargent. Mr. Honeycutt was a retired carpenter and a member of the Hibriten Masonic Lodge #262 AF& AM. For more than 50 years, he was a loving supporter to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the joy of his life.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. June Kirby Honeycutt of the home; one son, Chris Keith Honeycutt and wife Gaye of Granite Falls; one daughter, Mrs. Morris (Teresa) Senechal of West Palm Beach, Fla.; one step-daughter, Mrs. Kevin (Camille) Annas of Hickory; four grandchildren, Taylor Honeycutt of Granite Falls, Tim Frazier and Craig Senechal, both of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Brad Frazier of Mineral Wells Texas; two step-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Rusty Annas of Hickory; two great-grandchildren, Nicolas and Dylan Frazier of West Palm Beach Fla.; four sisters, Mrs. Willard (Verna) Jenkins, Mrs. Glenn (Antha) Thomas, Mrs. Betty Kennedy and Mrs. Ralph (Doris) Hall, all of Lenoir. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2008. at Blue Ridge Memorial Park conducted by the Rev. John Bell. The family will receive friends today from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Frazier, Craig Senechal, Taylor Honeycutt, Johnny Kirby, Mike Thomas and Rusty Annas. Honorary pallbearers will be Rusty Craig, Buss Lail and David Jenkins.
