Spartans, Panthers learn opponents

They had already secured a home playoff game in the first round, but the baseball teams from Hibriten and South Caldwell learned who they will host Friday when the brackets were released Wednesday.

Hibriten, in the 2-A West bracket, will play host to Ashe County, a team the Panthers defeated twice this season, including in a 16-2 game April 25. Hibriten (17-5) is the top seed from the Catawba Valley Athletic Conference. Ashe (9-10) enters as a wild-card team.

In the 4-A West, South Caldwell (21-1) will play host to Ashbrook. The defending state champions enter as the Northwestern Conference's top seed. Ashbrook (12-12) is a wild-card team.
