Two Hibriten doubles teams and one West Caldwell singles player finished in the top five at Thursday's second day of the CVAC tournament at Newton-Conover. Those finishes qualified them for the 2-A Midwest Regional in Salisbury May 9-10.
The Panthers' top doubles team of Avery Nelson and Huntley Nero finished second and the duo of Chris Clark and Max Lewis was fourth. The tandems will enter the regional competition with No. 2 and No. 4 seeds, respectively.
West Caldwell's Jared Greer defeated Bunker Hill's Cheeng Ly 7-5, 6-2 in the consolation finals to finish fifth.
Nelson and Nero defeated Newton-Conover's Hang Choi and Alex Burchins 6-0, 6-1 to reach the CVAC final, where they lost to Newton-Conover's Alan Pernell and Will Huggins. Clark and Lewis lost to both Newton-Conover duos.
The West Caldwell doubles team of Oscar Carlson and Nick Stanbury lost in the consolation finals 6-1, 5-7 (10-6) to Marlon Thou and Yee Lee from Bunker Hill. West singles player Will Wilson lost in the second round.

Warriors close with win
West Caldwell defeated Bunker Hill 1-0 Thursday to close out its season on a positive note.
The Warriors (4-14 Catawba Valley Athletic Conference) finished eighth in the season standings, but showed improvement against some of the league's top teams.
“Overall, I'm proud of my girls,” West coach Andrew Kanagy said. “They played hard.”
Megan Hahn scored the lone goal Thursday, following a Bunker Hill goal kick. Warrior keeper Kaleia Kent notched the shutout.
MS Baseball
Hudson wins
Mariano Rivera pitched a solid game and hit a home run Thursday to lead Hudson past East Alexander 12-0. He had two hits in the game, as did Hornets Dylan Poarch, Justin Perkins, Thomas Redding, Bryson Bowman and Tyler Moody.
Hudson is 11-0 entering next Tuesday's game at West Alexander.
MS Soccer
Hudson wins 5-3
The Hudson soccer team defeated East Alexander 5-3 Thursday to improve to 4-4.
Kirsti Reynolds scored four of the Hornets' five goals and assisted on the other, which was scored by Mary Proffitt.
Hannah Young and Taylor Burchette split time in goal. Chole Dunn contributed with a key defensive play down the stretch.
