HS baseball finales moved
Monday's local roundup Staff Reports Field conditions were too poor Monday for the baseball teams from Hibriten and West Caldwell to wrap up their regular seasons. Hibriten was to host Hickory, while West Caldwell was to travel to Bunker Hill. Both of those games will be played tonight, cutting short the time before the conference tournament. After their games, the coaches from the Catawba Valley Athletic Conference will meet in Hickory for tournament seeding. The CVAC tournament begins Wednesday (for the league's top eight teams) with higher seeds hosting games. The tournament will then shift to L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory for the semifinals (Friday) and final (Saturday). South Caldwell did not have a game scheduled for Monday. The Spartans play at Alexander Central today. Golf South finishes third in N-W South Caldwell qualified for regional competition Monday by wrapping up third place in the Northwestern conference. Alexander Central won Monday's final league match at Boone Country Club with a score of 308 and won the league with a season tally of 2,092. South Caldwell was sixth Monday (347), but third for the season (2,282). The Spartans will play in the regional next Monday in Shelby. Monday, Landon Clark shot an 81 to lead the Spartans. He finished the season 10th overall in the conference with an 18-hole, adjusted average of 76.5. Other Spartan scorers Monday included Nick Austin (84), John White (89) and Alex Bailey (93). The CVAC's final outing of the year, an 18-hole match to be held at Cedar Rock Country Club, was postponed until today. Tennis Teams enter tournament play The Northwestern conference tournament will be held today at two locations. The singles tournament will be held at South Caldwell, while the league's doubles bracket will play out at Granite Falls Recreation Center. Action will begin at 11 a.m., with the top five finishers qualifying for 4-A regional play. The CVAC tournaments are set for Wednesday and Thursday at Newton-Conover.
