Panthers causing a racket
Staff ReportsThings continue to go well for the Hibriten tennis team. The Panthers, now 10-1 overall and 6-1 in conference play, rolled to an 8-1 win over rival West Caldwell Thursday. Matchwinners in singles play included Avery Nelson, Huntley Nero and Chris Clark, Hibriten's top three. Erik Griffin won in No. 5 singles and Wesley Bradford won at No. 6. The Panther doubles tandems of Nelson/Nero, Clark/Max Lewis and Bradford/Sam Wright also posted victories. “All of our doubles teams are playing well,” Hibriten coach Brandon Dilling said. “That's our strong point right now.” Hibriten is near the top of the Catawba Valley Athletic Conference standings, having lost only to Hickory. “I feel good about where we're at,” Dilling said. But the two CVAC matches left on Hibriten's schedule are Newton-Conover next Tuesday and St. Stephens next Thursday. The Red Devils and Indians are both quite good. “It's going to be a tough week,” Dilling said. Keon McKissick posted the lone win for the Warriors Thursday at No. 4 singles. West is 6-8 overall and has its final CVAC matches against Foard and Patton next week.
