Panther softball team pops Hickory
Monday's local roundup Staff Reports The Hibriten softball team improved to 11-5 overall and 9-3 in the Catawba Valley Athletic Conference Monday with an 18-6 win at Hickory. The Panthers exploded for 13 runs in the third inning and had one batter - Hannah Crowe - bat three times in the frame. Bailey Goble and Hannah Stephens led the Hibriten hitting Monday, Goble going 3-for-5, Stephens 3-for-3. Candace Clark was 2-for-3. Ashlyn Pope pitched three innings for the Panthers, striking out five, walking two and allowing two hits. Kristin Oakes pitched the final two innings, striking out three, walking two and giving up two hits. Hibriten hosts Newton-Conover today. Golf Panthers second at Mimosa Drew Harris fired a round of 70 Monday to lead Hibriten to a second place finish in a conference match at Mimosa Golf Club in Morganton. Hickory won the Catawba Valley Athletic Conference match with an 18-hole, four-man score of 297. Hibriten finished with 301. Foard was third with 307, followed by Newton-Conover (308), St. Stephens (312), Patton (327), Bandys (340), West Caldwell and Maiden (346) and Bunker Hill (409). Harris and Newton-Conover's Chandler Keel had the day's low rounds. Rounding out the scoring for the Panthers were Alex Simmons (74), Sam Birckhead (78) and Eric Thompson (79). West Caldwell was led by an 81 by Jordan Harris. Ronnie Burchette (83), T.J. Dula (90) and Caleb Branch (92) were the other West scorers.
