Bumgarner loses debut
By News-Topic StaffFormer South Caldwell standout Madison Bumgarner, now of the Single-A Augusta Greenjackets, lost his professional baseball debut Sunday 6-4 to the Greensboro Grasshoppers.
Bumgarner lasted three innings, allowing seven hits and five earned runs. He struck out six Grasshoppers.
Bumgarner was a state player-of-the-year and the No. 10 overall pick a year ago and is playing in the San Francisco Giants organization. Augusta is a member of the South Atlantic League, meaning Bumgarner will make an appearance close to home this season. The Greenjackets play the Hickory Crawdads April 23-25 in Hickory.
