Early morning wreck sends two to hospital
Three people were injured in a four-vehicle wreck during Thursday's morning rush hour that started after one vehicle had stopped for emergency vehicles in one of the eastbound travel lanes in the 2700 block of Morganton Boulevard, said Trooper T.C. Williams of the N.C. Highway Patrol.
About 7:30 a.m., the driver of a Toyota Camry initially did not notice that a Mitsubishi Montero in the road ahead was stopped, and the driver then slammed on the brakes to try to avoid hitting it. A Chevrolet Blazer going east then hit the back of the Toyota, and then a Chevrolet pickup ran into the back of the Blazer. Williams said it was unclear Thursday whether the Toyota had stopped before hitting the Mitsubishi or was pushed into the Mitsubishi by the force of the two hits behind it. A mother and daughter in the Toyota, whose names were not available Thursday, were taken to Caldwell Memorial Hospital, while the driver of the Blazer was taken to the hospital by a family member, Williams said. The investigation is continuing.
