6 from Caldwell get college scholarships from electric company

Six Caldwell County students received scholarships from Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corp.

Hannah Bryant received a $500 scholarship to attend UNC Chapel Hill. Cory Dillard received a $1,000 scholarship to attend East Tennessee State University. Lucas Dunn received a $1,000 scholarship to attend UNC Chapel Hill. Brittney Huskey received a $400 scholarship to attend Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute. Jason Puett received a $400 scholarship to attend CCC&TI. Kelsey Toliver received a $500 scholarship to attend Gardner-Webb University.

Out of 82 applicants from Blue Ridge Electric’s service areas of Alleghany, Ashe, Caldwell, Watauga and Wilkes, a total of 12 students received scholarships for this academic year. Students are selected based on a number of factors including academic performance, community service and personal interviews. Up to $17,500 is allocated annually for individual scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,000 to help students seeking either a four- or two-year degree.
