Chapel of Rest presents Christmas Eve service
The Chapel of Rest’s annual Christmas Eve Service will begin at 4 p.m., and the doors open at 3:30 p.m.
Patsy Riddle will play a “Christmas Meditation” on keyboard beginning at 3:45 p.m., to include a cello solo by J.S. Bach performed by Nick Paolino.
Bassoonist Paige West-Smith and percussionist Charles Smith will begin the Prelude at 4 p.m. with “What Child is This” arranged by Charles Smith. A mixed vocal ensemble of Bev Frye, Carol Frye, Elizabeth Norris, Cynthia Hauss, Joel Kincaid and Seth Hickel will sing “Christmas Lullaby” by John Rutter. Kincaid, baritone, and Hickel, tenor will sing “The Hands That First Held Mary’s Child” by Dan Forrest, with cello and keyboard accompaniment.
A Christmas homily, “Do Not Be Afraid, will be presented by the Rev. Marietta Smith, retired associate minister of First United Methodist Church in Lenoir.
Lay readers will be Cynthia Hauss of St. Stephens Lutheran Church and Ray Williams of St. James Episcopal Church. During the offertory, the Smiths will play “Silent Night” arranged by Charles Smith. The Christmas Eve service will conclude with “O Holy Night” and “The Lord Bless You and Keep You” by John Rutter.
Patsy Hollar, who spent 24 years as a choral teacher at Hibriten High School and also directed the choir at First Baptist Church in Lenoir for 10 years, organized the musical celebration.
