Preston Ryan was confirmed into adult membership on Pentecost Sunday, May 19, by the Rev. Terrell Long at Philadelphia Evangelical Lutheran Church in Granite Falls. Preston was instructed by Jim Ledford, Confirmand Teacher, and the Rev. Terrell Long. Preston was born March 16, 1999, and was baptized on May 9, 1999. Preston is the son of Ron and Lisa Herman.

Mount Hermon United Methodist Church will not collect paper for recycling in July, but will resume Aug. 3-4.

The Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Caldwell County will hold a BBQ and Chicken Plate sale on Saturday, June 22, from noon to 4 p.m. at People's Tabernacle For God Inc. at 412 Collett Place, Lenior. Plates are $7, and you may still purchase a plate if you have not bought a ticket.

Mulberry Baptist Church will host gospel singing by the John's River Quartet at 7 p.m. June 22.

Wildwood Advent Christian Church will sponsor singing by Living By Faith Quartet at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at the church, five miles up Playmore Beach Road.

The Tabernacle Voices will celebrate their 45th anniversary on Saturday, June 22, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, June 23, at 4 p.m.

Center Grove Baptist Church will have its community breakfast Saturday, June 22, from 7-10 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Faith Tabernacle Church, 1410 Winhurst St., will host God's Joy Anniversary on June 23 starting at 4 p.m., featuring various youth praise groups, singers, choirs and praise dancers.

Yadkin Baptist Church, 2044 Roby Martin Road, will have a retirement celebration for the Rev. and Mrs. Sherrill German on Sunday, June 23, at 5 p.m. Rev. German has served as minister of music and education at Yadkin for 33 years (1980-2013). After the music program, there will be a covered dish meal.

Union Grove Baptist Church, 1808 Union Grove Road, will hold Vacation Bible School with the theme "Colossal Coaster World" Sunday-Friday, June 23-28, 6-9 p.m. each night. Miller Hill Baptist Church, 1230 Virginia St. SW in Lenoir, will host Vacation Bible School June 23-26. The theme is "Colossal Coaster World," with the motto "Facing Fear, Trusting God." Times are 5-8 p.m. Sunday; 6-8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. There will be classes for ages 3 through adult.

Vacation Bible School at Heavenly Hope Baptist Church, at the corner of Central Drive and Ronquil Park Place in Lenoir, will be Monday-Friday, June 24-28, 7-8:45 p.m. nightly. Bible study for all ages, including an adult class. Crafts, music, refreshments.

Unifour Christian Singles is sponsoring a trip to Fort Mill for lunch and a play at the Narroway Theatre, a Christian theater, on June 29. The group will leave Ingle's on Connelly Springs Road at 9 a.m. and pick up people at Rose's in Hickory at 9:15 before continuing on to Fort Mill. Harpers Chapel United Methodist Church will sponsor a Gospel Extravaganza on Saturday, June 29, featuring the Sons of Saron from Wadesboro, soloist Toni Carlton of Lenoir, and The Mayes Brothers from Charlotte. Doors open at 5 p.m., worship begins at 6 p.m. Admission is free with a love offering.

Cedar Rock Baptist Church, 306 Wildwood Road in Lenoir, will have "Gospel Friends" from Alexander County for a gospel singing on Saturday night, June 29, at 7 p.m.

Liberty Baptist Church will be having a singing June 30 at 6 p.m. featuring The Corbetts from Hudson. The church is at 213 Hazel Lee st. in Lenoir near Thomasville Furniture.

Setzer Creek Baptist Church will have the Ashe County Homeschool "Generation Excellent Team" present their musical patriotic program, "I Love This Land," on Sunday evening, June 30, at 6 p.m. The program will awaken the Patriot inside and ignite a faith in America's Christian Heritage. Lower Creek Baptist Church, 633 Lower Creek Drive, will hold a community cookout and Vacation Bible School "Pre-Registration Fun Day" at 6 p.m. July 3. There will be free hot dogs, live music, a water slide and a fun house.

Unifour Christian Singles is sponsoring a cook-out July 4 at Dan Nicholas Park in Salisbury. Meet at Ingle's on Connelly Springs Road at 8:30 a.m. The group will also pick up people at Roses in Hickory. Bring a covered dish, chair and $5 each. They will stay at the park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be games, and the park has paddle boats, a fishing pond, an aquarium and a nature center. Center Grove Baptist Church will host a Drive Out Hunger Run on Saturday, Aug. 17. Participants will drive classic cars, trucks, motorcycles or other vehicles to designated stops to collect tickets before returning to the church to use them for prize drawings, featuring a flat-screen television and GPS. Registration will be from 8:30-9:30 a.m., with ticket collection from 9:30 a.m.-noon. A lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs will be served from noon-1 p.m., followed by a message from Stuart Smith of God Speed Ministry and the drawing for prizes. You must be present to win. First Church of God is having a call to prayer at 10 a.m. on Saturdays. Each Saturday when fire alarms sound around Lenoir and Caldwell County at 10 a.m., the church asks citizens to stop and pray for the city, world, churches, wars and other issues of concern.

Handfuls of Purpose Ministries will offer used clothing for those in need on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Men's, women’s and children’s clothing is available along with shoes, coats and housewares.
