Yadkin Baptist Church in Patterson will have its annual Homecoming service on Sunday morning, Sept. 8. The Rev. Henry C. Cook Jr., pastor of Rocky Hill Baptist Church in Love Valley, will be the guest speaker. Cook served as pastor of Yadkin from 1972-79. Special music will be provided by the Adult Choir, directed by Mr. Terry Reid. the Adult Ensemble and Mark Cook, music director at Meadowbrook Baptist Church. A covered dish lunch will follow. All members, former members, friends and neighbors are invited to celebrate the life and ministry of Caldwell County's oldest Baptist Church.

Berea Advent Christian Church will celebrate 138 years of ministry on Sunday, Sept. 8. Worship services will begin at 10:30 a.m. with guest speaker the Rev. Richard Russell, director of operations for Advent Chrisitan General Conference. Special music will be provided by Barry Curtis and Strings of Joy. American Lutheran religious scholar Martin Marty will speak at Lenoir-Rhyne University's Belk Centrum on Friday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. Marty’s talk, “The Mainline and All the Other Lines: American Protestantism and the Tracks ahead," will address mainline Christianity in a religiously pluralist society. This event is free and open to the public. No tickets or reservations are required. Marty is a professor emeritus at the University of Chicago’s Divinity School, where he taught for 35 years.
Shiloh Lutheran Church, 1011 Shiloh Church Road in Bethlehem, will hold a breakfast fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 14, 7-10 a.m. The menu consists of ham, livermush, bacon, sausage, eggs, gravy, fruit, rice, grits, milk, coffee and juice for $6 for those 11 and up, $3 for children 3 to 10, and free for children under 3.
