Fleischer withdrawing from clerk's race
James Fleischer, the first Republican candidate in 12 years for Caldwell County Clerk of Superior Court, announced that he will withdraw from the race.
In an email to the News-Topic, Fleischer said, “After careful consideration and prayer, my family and I have come to the conclusion that this is not the right time or path for us at the moment."
Because Fleischer waited until after the filing period ended to withdraw, his name may still appear on the ballot in November, but the Caldwell County Republican Executive Comittee may choose another candidate to take Fleischer’s place. The deadline for that decision is 75 days before the Nov. 4 general election. If his name is still on the ballot, any votes cast for him will be thrown out.
To officially withdraw, Fleischer must provide a formal letter to the county board of elections stating his desire to withdraw, which he had not done Monday afternoon.
