The Caldwell County Fairgrounds has scheduled its annual fair for Tuesday-Saturday, Sept. 23-27. As always, there will be rides, exhibits, food, and more. The Miss Teen C.C. Fair Pageant sponsored by the Caldwell County Fairgrounds will take place on Saturday at 1:30 in the Jim Andrews Building. Young ladies who want to be contestants must have a 3.0 weighted grade average for the prior school year, be between 15 and 19 years old, be a resident of Caldwell County, and must have good moral standing in the community. Scholarships donated by the Broyhill Family Foundation totaling $2,500 are awarded to winners for first, second and third place, and the Talent, Evening Gown, and Fashion winners. Miss Congeniality and the Photogenic Winner are also given prizes. Young ladies who are interested in entering the pageant can get an application, which has more details and instructions, from their high school’s guidance counselor starting Aug. 20. The Harper Concert Band is open to any high school graduate whose musical ability and expertise enables them to perform instrumental band music of the grade V and VI level, comparable to that of the former bands of Hudson and Lenoir High and those of current high schools in Caldwell County. Rehearsals are held on Monday nights 7-8:45 p.m. in the band room of Hibriten High School. The first rehearsal of the fall will be on Sept. 8.

Volunteers are needed by Meals on Wheels to deliver mid-day meals on Monday, Wednesday and Friday in Lenoir's MLK13 community area and Monday through Friday in the MLK14, and on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, plus one Thursday out of the month, in the Granite Falls area. It only takes one to two hours to make a difference in the life of an elderly citizen.
