Lenoir man charged with murder
A Lenoir man now sits in the Alexander County jail charged with murder after a woman he was accused of viciously beating earlier this month died Monday at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Jerry Walter Teague, 42, of 119 Calvary Place is accused of beating and kicking Lisa Jacobs Berry, 41, of 44 Willard's Lane in Taylorsville on Feb. 3 at her residence. When Alexander County sheriff's deputies arrived there, they found Berry unconscious and with severe head injuries, Sheriff Chris Bowman told the Taylorsville Times. Teague was still there and was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
Berry died Monday, and Teague -- still in jail -- was charged with first-degree murder, and his now being held without bond.
Until his arrest in Alexander County, Teague was listed on the Lenoir Police Department's Most Wanted list for two months for assault inflicting serious bodily injury. He has been in and out of the jail numerous times on a variety of charges, Capt. Brent Phelps of the Lenoir Police Department said. "He's a bad dude," Phelps said.
The N.C. Division of Adult Correction shows convictions dating back to 1991, including resisting an officer, disorderly conduct, assault on a female, assault on a public official, driving while impaired and forgery.
Teague is scheduled to appear in Alexander Superior Court on Feb. 17.
