A Lenoir man died Thursday after falling off a roof while installing a drying kiln at a sawmill in Ellington, Mo.

Robert Ward "Bobby" Greene, 67, of North Fairview Drive, was standing on a tin roof at Mark Twain Forest Products when a gust of wind blew a piece of tin roofing, which then swept Greene off the roof, said Sheriff Tom Volner of the Reynolds County Sheriff's Office. Greene fell about 25 feet and was killed, Volner said.

Greene was born in Lenoir and graduated from Gamewell High School in 1965. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1970, which included a tour of Vietnam, said his sister Joan Roten. He worked as a brick mason and worked in construction for many years, Roten said.

He loved to play golf, and had been married twice.

"He was a good person and he loved people," Roten said. "He would do anything for you."

Funeral arrangements were not complete Monday.
