A Hudson teenager struck by a car Monday on Fairwood Drive was in critical condition late Tuesday afternoon at Levine Children's Hospital in Charlotte.

Grayson Walker, 15, of 2716 Jordan Place, a sophomore at West Caldwell High School, was retrieving his dead dog's body from Fairwood Drive near the intersection with Jordan Place about 7:30 a.m. Monday when he was hit by a Hyundai Elantra traveling south on Fairwood Drive. The dog had been hit and kit about a half hour earlier, and Walker and his two brothers had come with a sheet to wrap it up and carry it off.

Walker was knocked about 75 feet and into a neighbor's yard. He was unconscious and bleeding when emergency crews arrived.

The N.C. Highway Patrol was still investigating Tuesday and had not charged the driver, Brittany Moretz, 25, of Wagon Wheel Drive.
