Granite Hardwoods, neighbors may settle dispute
Granite Hardwoods Inc. and its neighbors are working on an agreement to defuse their dispute over the company’s plans for a site on Edding Road.
The site once was zoned for industrial but due to lack of use reverted to residential zoning.
Larry Ryder, who lives on Eddington Road, told the Granite Falls Town Council on Monday night that neighbors strongly oppose rezoning 3008 Eddington Road to industrial use if Granite Hardwoods would use it as a back entrance to their main property on U.S. 321-A. But he said that recent talks with company manager Woody Buchanan lead him to believe the company and neighbors can come to an agreement for the property to be used for wood dust storage instead of an access point.
“I feel there is a way to resolve our fears. Mr. Buchanan has just presented me a possible solution to the problem through deed restrictions,” Ryder said.
Buchanan also spoke favorably of his talks with neighbors.
“I think we can work this out in the next few weeks,” Buchanan said. “We’re very interested in being a good neighbor to our neighbors in that area. We don’t want to impose our will in any way on the other residents there.”
The town council voted to reschedule the rezoning decision to June 2.
