A Lenoir woman was badly injured Sunday when her car ran off the side of Blowing Rock Boulevard, fell down a steep hill and landed in the parking lot of the CVS Pharmacy.

Patricia Gravely, 64, of Brigadoon Lane was driving south about 2:30 p.m. in a 2000 Ford Explorer when she went off the right side of the road just south of Walmart, struck a utility pole and advertising sign, went airborne and sideswiped a tree, Lenoir Police Lt. Andy Wilson said. Gravely was flown to Carolinas Medical Center, where she was listed in fair condition Monday, Wilson said.

Gravely's infant granddaughter, who was in a child car seat restrained in the back seat, was not hurt but was taken to Caldwell Memorial Hospital for observation.

Police do not know what caused Gravely to run off the road, but they hope to talk to her today to find out, Wilson said. She was traveling the posted 45 mph speed limit.
