Man accused of shooting at girlfriend
A man who reportedly shot and killed his father on Jan. 5 was arrested Tuesday and accused of firing a rifle at his girlfriend.
Jordan Daniel Newman, 29, of Slope Terrace fired a round from a Marlin .22-caliber rifle at the head of Tasha Nicole Moretz, according to an arrest warrant. Newman also kicked Moretz in the chest and smacked her face with the back of his hand, the warrant said.
At the time of his arrest, deputies also found a small amount of marijuana and some rolling papers in his possession.
Newman was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a female, possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $1,500.
On Jan. 5, Ora Newman, 53, was shot outside Jordan Newman's mobile home at 1559 Slope Terrace about 11 p.m. Jordan Newman has not been charged, and his mother, Ora Newman's wife, has said that the shooting was self-defense.
Investigators have said that the shooting investigation will be turned over to the district attorney's office for review. Prosecutors then could choose to submit charges to a grand jury for a possible indictment.
