Police say heroin found in man's pants
Granite Falls police said two men from Blowing Rock were arrested after heroin was found in a car after a routine traffic stop Thursday.
Officers pulled over a 1998 Ford Taurus heading north on U.S. 321 just after 10 p.m. near Carey's Automotive after checking the license plate on the car and learning there was no such plate number issued, Lt. Chris Jenkins of the Granite Falls Police Department said. The driver, Shawn Allen Valdez, 43, of 4859 U.S. 321 in Blowing Rock, and passenger, Christopher Daniel Harry, 41, of 4859 U.S. 321 in Blowing Rock, both appeared nervous and agitated, Jenkins said, so the officers called for a dog unit from the Hickory Police Department to help them search the car, and officers found what appeared to be heroin residue on a set of scales inside the car. Officers then found 5.45 grams of heroin inside Valdez's pants.
Valdez was charged with felony possession with intent to make, sell and deliver heroin, felony maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $50,000.
The officers learned that an order for arrest previously had been issued for Harry, who was charged with failure to appear in court for a hearing on charges of driving while license revoked and a seat belt violation.
