Overnight winds knock out power
High winds that blew into Caldwell County early Friday downed some power lines and knocked out power to 330 Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corp. customers.
The National Weather Service's Spartanburg, SC office reported sustained overnight winds of between 10 to 20 mph, and gusts of between 20 to 30 mph. The outages occurred in the Dry Ponds community around 11:26 p.m. Thursday. By mid-morning Friday, Blue Ridge employees worked to restore power to 56 members in the Oak Hill community.
At least 10,000 Duke Engergy customers had lost power due to high winds across the Carolinas, a Duke Energy spokesperson said. Eleven customers were still without power in the Whitnel area by mid-morning Friday.
