A man was killed late Sunday in a shooting at a mobile home north of Lenoir, the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office said.

The shooting was reported about 11 p.m. at a mobile home at 1559 Slope Terrace, a dirt road that turns off Nuway Circle. Deputies found the body of 53-year-old Ora David Newman of 1553 Slope Terrace outside the mobile home. Caldwell County property records say that 1559 Slope Terrace is owned by Jordan Daniel Newman.

No arrests had been made by Monday evening, but investigators have talked to what the sheriff's office described as a "person of interest," Capt. B.J. Fore said. Investigators are still conducting interviews, and the completed investigation will be turned over to the district attorney's office.

A neighbor, who identified himself only as Steve, said he was watching TV when he heard what sounded like gunshots.

"I heard about four loud shots," he said. "I went outside and saw someoe running down the road with a flashlight. A few minutes later I saw an ambulance and then a bunch of police cars."

The shooting is Caldwell County's first homicide of 2014.
