Man arrested third time for felony drug charges
A man who twice had been released after posting bond after arrests on felony drug charges was arrested again Tuesday on more felony drug charges by the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office.
Benny Dale Laney Sr., 45, of 1084 Windsong Circle in Hudson was arrested at home and accused of previously selling illegal narcotics at his house to undercover officers, the sheriff's office said in a press release. Detectives also searched the house of his parents, Sylvia and Benny Phillip Laney of 1064 Windsong Circle, because undercover purchases of prescription pills had been made there as well. Laney's parents were not arrested, but the investigation is continuing, said Detective David Barbour of the sheriff's office.
During searches of the two houses, investigators found oxycodone, morphine, Alprazolam, Ambien and methamphetamine, along with two pistols, $7,374 in cash and drug paraphernalia, the press release said.
After his first arrest in January 2013 on charges of felony possession with intent to sell or deliver oxycodone and maintaining a vehicle or dwelling to keep or store a controlled substance, Laney posted $15,000 bond to get out of jail, Barbour said. But in September he was arrested after a traffic stop on U.S. 321-A because investigators said that a search of his car turned up oxycodone and Alprazolam pills. His bond was set at $125,000, and again he posted bond to get out of jail.
Laney was charged Tuesday with felony possession of methamphetamine and felony maintaining a dwelling to keep or store a controlled substance. His bond was set at $200,000.
Also arrested in Tuesday's raids were:
• Sonya Lynn Pitts, 23, of 1084 Windsong Circle, felony possession of methamphetamine and possession with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance. $25,000 secured bond
• Julie Ann Riddle, 40, of 1084 Windsong Circle, felony possession with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule IV controlled substance, $25,000 secured bond.
• Shawn O'Brian Riddle, 40, of 1084 Windsong Circle, felony possession of methamphetamine, $50,000 secured bond.
