Police are searching for a man who stole a Dell laptop from a computer repair shop in Granite Falls after pretending to need help with a cellphone repair.

Ed Sheaffer, owner of PC Paramedix at 7 North Main St., said the man was waiting at the front door talking on his cellphone when Sheaffer arrived Saturday around 1 p.m. The man came into the store and asked about getting a screen replaced on his phone, interrupted himself to say had to answer a call on his cellphone, then wandered around the store while Sheaffer continued to turn on lights and computers to get the store ready for business, Sheaffer said.

While Shaeffer wasn’t looking, the man unplugged a Dell Inspiron laptop, picked it up and walked out the front door, Sheaffer said. A surveillance camera recorded him doing it.

A police report lists computer's value as $489.99.

Shaeffer is offering a $100 reward to anyone with information who identifies the man, who was wearing a black Under Armour baseball cap, camouflage shorts and a black hoodie with logos on the back for the band Insane Clown Posse. The man had numerous tattoos, including the Insane Clown Posse’s “hatchet man” on his left arm, a star on his left elbow and a moon-like shape on his left leg.
