Veterans Memorial Project making progress
Granite Falls is formally seeking bids for construction of its proposed veterans memorial.
The advertising for bids will go out today, and bids will be received through May 29.
“We’ve got everything done. We do have specifications ready to go,”
As of May 1, the Veterans Memorial Committee has raised $95,000 for the project, which is estimated to cost $135,000. Also, 200 names of veterans have been submitted to be inscribed on the granite monuments.
Construction is slated to begin on June 10, and the dedication ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 7, Town Engineer Clarence Lockamy said. The monument will sit between the Recreation Center and the Philadelphia Lutheran Church.
“We’ve given ourselves three days of leeway before the 11th, and hopefully, we have good weather and everything moves along on schedule,” Lockamy said. “You may see a lot of work going on immediately — pouring the slab, getting the electrical lights and what have you in place — and then it may sit there for a couple of months while the memorials are being built or being delivered.”
