Lenoir police say Thomas Gregory Edmisten of Morganton had fake $100 bills
A Morganton man was accused Friday of trying to buy food with fake money.
Lenoir police arrested Thomas Gregory Edmisten, 38, of 4395 Piney Road after receiving a complaint from FATZ Restaurant on Blowing Rock Boulevard about a man trying to pay for his meal with a fake $100 bill. Police reported seizing 17 counterfeit $100 bills from Edmisten, who also was wanted on a warrant from Burke County for a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Edmiston was charged with felony possession of five or more counterfeit instruments and felony attempting to obtain property by false pretense. A $20,000 secured bond was set.
The U.S. Secret Service is investigating, and more arrests are expected, police said.
