Police: Lenoir man with handgun scares off armed teens
Police say four teenagers, two wearing ski masks and one armed with an assault rifle, forced their way into 72-year-old man's house to rob him Monday, but the man scared them away with shots from his own handgun.
Morris Leon Reaves, 72, of Georgetown Extension fired two shots at the intruders, who ran away to a nearby car and drove away.
Prior to the home invasion, the teens had broken into a vehicle on the property and took a man's wallet and clothes.
Four suspects were identified from images taken by Reave's security camera. A lengthy investigation led to the arrests of Dexton Markez Banner, 17, of 703 Stage St. in Lenoir; Latif Thomas Banner, aka "Lala," 19, of 108 Wilson St. in Lenoir; Maurice Craig Brown, 16, of 323 Eastview Place in Lenoir, and Ashley Nicole Bost, 18, of 2351 Fourth Ave. NW in Hickory. Police say the four knew Reave.
Each of the four was charged with one felony count of kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon, first-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit burglary, breaking and entering a motor vehicle, larceny after breaking and entering,and misdeamnor assault by pointing a gun. Dexton Banner was also charged with failure to appear for breaking and entering, larceny, and possession of stolen goods. Latif Banner was also charged with two counts probation violation, two counts domestic violence protection order violations, and injury to personal property.
Latif Banner was being held in jail with no bond allowed. Brown's bond was set at $251,500. Bost's bond was set at $101,500. Dexton Banner's bond was set at $55,000.
