Church gets two more weeks to move
The Storehouse Daily Bread Ministry food pantry and Crossroads Community Church has two more weeks to find a new home.
The church and food pantry originally were told May 1 to leave the building they have used rent-free on Morganton Boulevard by today.
CommunityOne Bank foreclosed on the property in 2012 and now says it has been sold to a new owner who wants the building empty. Food pantry director Cecilia Bowman said bank officials say she and her husband, pastor Rick Bowman, now have until May 27.
"There's no way we can find a building by then," Cecilia Bowman said. "I told (Bank President Bob Reid), 'We are not squatters, we've tried to work with you all.'
"He said he would try to find a phone number for the new property owner so we could negotiate something."
