Lenoir police rule death of Michael Wade Taylor a homicide
Police say Michael Wade Taylor, whose body was found Thursday behind the Lenoir Mall, died as a result of a fight and are ruling his death as a homicide.
According to Lenoir Police Capt. Brent Phelps, Taylor suffered several injuries to his body, which led to his death.
The body of Taylor, 28, was discovered about 1:45 p.m. Thursday near a makeshift campsite where police believe Taylor, who was homeless, had been staying. Taylor’s last known address was 330A Woodsway Lane, Lenoir.
Little is known of Taylor, who often dined at the Lenoir Soup Kitchen. Folks who frequent the soup kitchen are treated like family by staff.
“He seemed real polite when he came in here,” said executive director Angel Moretz. “He wouldn’t come in every day; it could be weeks at a time. He had been coming in for about six months. We all were wondering what happened to him.”
Friends and acquaintances of Taylor are being interviewed to find out where and when he was last seen and other circumstances surrounding the incident.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the Lenoir Police Department at 757-2100 or Caldwell County Crimestoppers at 828-758-8300 to remain anonymous.
