One killed in Dudley Shoals; few details released
UPDATE: Arrested Thursday was Ralph Barker, 71, of 4922 Kistler Lane, Granite Falls. Details to come in Saturday's News-Topic.
As darkness and a cold, light rain fell on Dudley Shoals, one person lay dead, and another stood before investigators for questioning.
Residents of Kistler Lane knew little else for sure Thursday evening.
The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a shooting just before 5:30 p.m. at a house near the end of Kistler Lane off of Ike Starnes Road, Capt. B.J. Fore said. Officials would not release the specific address, the name of who was shot or the name of the person they were questioning Thursday night. They said only that the person who was shot died where the shooting occurred.
Deputies in about a half dozen patrol cars blocked access to the end of the muddy, gravel road in the gathering darkness, allowing residents in but keeping reporters out of sight of where the shootings happened. One woman who lives on the street said, “It’s that man again. He’s crazy. He’s always fighting with everybody.”
Down the road, closer to the scene, a few residents could be seen outside in the cold, looking.
A patrol car left with a person in the back. Officials would not say whether it was a witness or the suspect.
