Man charged in weekend fight
A Lenoir-area man sought by police in an assault at the Days Inn on Saturday morning was arrested Monday in Hudson.
Ralph Garland Prestwood, 48, of 3035 Zacks Fork Road was seen in the parking lot of Melanie's Hometown Pharmacy on Hickman Avenue by Hudson police and taken into custody, according to a press release from the Lenoir Police Department. Garland was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a weapon in city limits and assault by pointing a gun. A $5,000 secured bond was issued.
Lenoir police were called to Room 109 at the Days Inn on Blowing Rock Boulevard just after 8 a.m. Saturday after a woman said Prestwood was fighting with Andrew Keith Dellinger, 31, of 306 Fairview Drive North, the press release said. She also said Prestwood was armed with a handgun. Dellinger and Tasha Dawn Pennell, 23, of 31 Laurel St. in Hudson were taken from the room while officers searched for Prestwood. The department's Special Response Team assisted in the search for Prestwood, as well as the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office, who evacuated all the rooms of the hotel, but police believe Prestwood left before the first officers arrived.
