A Caldwell County grand jury indicted a Granite Falls woman Monday on a felony charge of involuntary manslaughter Wednesday in the wreck last September that killed a friend who was a passenger in the car.

Jenna Marie Triplett, 25, of North Highland Avenue also is charged with driving while impaired and reckless driving to endanger.

Triplett was driving her 2000 Nissan SUV on Sunset Street in Granite Falls early in the morning on Sept. 15 when she drove off the road in a curve, and the front passenger side of the Nissan slammed into a utility pole. Suellen Mitchum, 33, was killed in the impact. The N.C. Highway Patrol estimated Triplett was going 50 mph at the time. The speed limit there is 35 mph.

Triplett was charged at the time with driving while impaired and reckless driving. The indictment automatically advances the case to Caldwell Superior Court.
