The three strokes 55-year-old Johnny Staley endured left him mostly wheelchair-bound, so when two men carrying clubs and wearing hoodies and gloves forced their way into his Starcross Road home Wednesday night, he feared for his life.

It was just before 10 p.m. Staley slid off his wheelchair and onto a recliner to watch TV. He heard noise coming from the front door. Then the terror began.

"They yanked the screen door open and said, 'Don't move,'" Staley said. "When I did move, they raised their clubs. I thought they were going to hit me."

When it was over, his house was ransacked.

"I think they may have been looking for my medication," Staley said.

Instead, they stole his desktop computer, valued at $600, and left.

"I didn't know who they were, or if they were in a car or not," Staley added. "I was scared."

Lenoir police were still investigating the incident Thursday, Capt. Couby Stilwell said.
