Raw sewage leaks from broken pipe in Lenoir
A broken pipe released about 1,700 gallons of untreated sewage into a creek off Harper Avenue on Thursday, the City of Lenoir announced Friday.
A service connection behind Lenoir Printing had backed up and someone contacted Lenoir officials about 8:30 a.m. after smelling the sewage, said Radford Thomas, director of public utilities. A city maintenance crew stopped the discharge about two hours later, a press release said.
The sewage went into a tributary of Zacks Fork Creek. The city notified the N.C. Division of Water Quality.
