5-car wreck backs traffic up on U.S. 321
A wreck on U.S. 321 North involving five vehicles Tuesday morning sent one person to the hospital and tied up traffic for about a half-hour.
The accident occurred near Pine Mountain Road about 7:50 a.m., said Sgt. Richard Blevins of the Hudson Police Department. Five cars heading north in the left lane were stopped in heavy traffic when the driver of the last car started to pull into the right lane. Christy Coffey, 23, of Owen Fox Place in Hudson was driving up in the right lane in a 1998 Honda and tried to brake but couldn't stop in time and hit the car, which knocked it into the next car in the left lane, which knocked that car into the one in front of it, which knocked that into the one in front of it.
Coffey was taken to Caldwell Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released. Coffey was not charged in the wreck but was found at fault, Blevins said.
