At 2 p.m. the Lenoir branch of the Caldwell County Public Library will show a movie based on a teen book series. There will be snacks, flame nail painting and flame line art. This program is open to teens going into sixth to 12th grades.

The 2014 Pops Ferguson Blues Heritage Festival opens with a free block party 6-8 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center, 313 Greenhaven Drive NE in Lenoir. Jazz musician Bryan Anderson will perform. The party then moves to The Alibi, a downtown restaurant and pub at 915 West Ave. NW. An open jam session will be held from 10 p.m. to midnight. The public is invited to bring guitars and jam with artists who will be performing on Saturday.

Blues on the Grass featuring Grammy Award-winning Barbara Carr, Rosa Russ and Cool John Ferguson, will be at the Delk House, 415 Hibriten Ave. in Lenoir, starting at 6:30 p.m. Food Prepared by 1841 Cafe includes crawfish etouffee, and chicken and andouille sausage gumbo, and there will be beer and wine. The U.S. Forest Service will waive fees at four day-use recreation sites today  -- Whitewater Falls and Whiteside Mountain in Nantahala National Forest, and Roan Mountain and Cradle of Forestry in Pisgah National Forest -- for National Get Outdoors Day.

Free music workshops associated with the Pops Ferguson Blues Heritage Festival will be 9 a.m. – noon at Highland Coffeehouse, 113 Main St. NW in downtown Lenoir.

9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Hickory book making artist Sigrid Hice will teach “Paper Decorating Design” at the Caldwell Arts Council, 601 College Ave. SW, Lenoir. $25 class fee. Call 828-754-2486. Learn simple, colorful techniques to decorate paper for collages, card making, stationery, scrapbooking, and giftwrap.

Bugs Galore Library Story Time will be at the Lenoir branch of the Caldwell County Public Library at 10 a.m. Children participate in stories, music, and games that encourage language and social development. Story Time lasts about 30 minutes and is followed by 15 minutes of craft time. For children 2 to 5, and a caregiver.

The Table Rock Veterans of Foreign Wars Riders Group will be holding its "Look Twice Save A Life" bike wash 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at The Side Street Pourhouse, 110 Valencia Place, Lenoir. Bikes and small cars $5, large cars and trucks $8. All profits will go to the benefit of a veteran hurt in a recent bike accident. For more information call Kathy at 828-228-9501.

The Foothills Outdoorsman Association will have the "Cindy Lou" Music Festival in Collettsville at the ballpark starting at 11 a.m. There will be music all day, silent auctions (proceeds to benefit the Darrell Otis Vines Scholarship Fund), live auctions, kids' games, raffles and more. The Kings Creek Ruritan Club is having a BBQ starting at 11 a.m. and going until it is sold out. There will be chicken and pork, cole slaw, baked beans, roll and dessert. Plates are $8 each. The Kings Creek Ruritan Club is on N.C. 18 in the Kings Creek community. Proceeds will help fund ongoing community projects.

The Pops Ferguson Blues Heritage Festival will be 1-10 p.m. in downtown Lenoir, with heritage crafters and food vendors open. Entertainment will perform from 2-10 p.m. Acts include Mac Arnold, former co-producer of “Soul Train” and member of Muddy Waters; Phil Wiggins, who will also teach a blues harmonica workshop; John Dee Holman; Pop Ferguson; and Lawyers, Guns & Money, a North Carolina blues band that had two singles reach No. 1 on the Cashbox Magazine Roadhouse Blues charts. The Lenoir Moose Lodge presents "A Night Out," dinner and a comedy show, starting at 6 p.m. in a fundraiser for Hibriten District Youth Football. Comedian Sid Davis was voted "Best in Fest" by the audiences at the San Luis Obispo Comedy Festival three years in a row, earning him a job opening for Joan Rivers. Sunday, June 15

The Ashley / Cardwell Cousins Reunion, for descendants of Thomas M. Ashley and John Henry Cardwell, will be at Stony Hill Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 406 Summit Road, Purlear, beginning at noon. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. All guests are asked to bring a well filled basket and whatever they would like to drink. Paper products and ice will be supplied.
