Three members were sworn into the Granite Falls Town Council on Monday, and the council selected a new mayor pro tem.

Mike Mackie, who is two years into a four-year term on the town council, will serve as mayor pro tem. He replaces Tracy Townsend, whose term on the town council also ends in 2015.

Two new council members, Marc Church and Martin Townsend, were sworn in by Mayor Barry Hayes.

Caryl Burns was also sworn in for a fifth term on the town council. Burns has served on the council since 1997.

Mayor Barry Hayes was also sworn in for a fifth term as mayor of Granite Falls. Hayes, who was challenged by council member Jim Mackie in the November elections, received 78.72 percent of the votes cast for the mayor’s seat.

The town also honored the two members leaving its town council, along with the town’s retiring assistant fire chief.

Max McRary served on the Granite Falls Town Council from 2009 to 2013 and, before that, from 1985 to 2001. He did not seek re-election in 2013.

Frank Mackie served on the town council from 2001 to 2013 and, before that, from 1981 to 1993. He sought but did not win re-election in 2013.

Earl “Ronnie” Wilson Jr. served as the town’s assistant fire chief for more than 28 years.
