Stolen tools found for sale at overstock store, investigators say
The owner of an overstock and liquidation retailer in Hudson was charged with three felonies last on Oct. 9 after police say he was buying and selling stolen property for his business.
Mark Phillip Long, 60, owner of Crazy Mark's at 3341 Hickory Blvd., was arrested Wednesday after a month-long joint investigation by the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office and Hudson police. A search of the business turned up at least 15 power tools reported as stolen in two recent break-ins, said Detective Aaron Barlowe of the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office.
"We inventoried the entire business for eight hours" and matched serial numbers and engraved initials on the tools to what was reported storlen, Barlowe said. "We compared serial numbers to a national database."
Crazy Mark's sells tools, lawn and garden equipment, workout equipment, toys and electronics. Long also lives at the business, which was in the process of being sold at the time of his arrest.
Long was charged with one felony count of receiving stolen property and two felony counts of possession of stolen property. Long was released from the Caldwell County jail after posting $15,000 bond.
