Cajah's Mountain bans smoking at town hall
Smoking is now banned on town property in Cajah’s Mountain, after the town council passed a no-smoking policy Tuesday night.
The policy would apply to town employees, council members, contractors and visitors at Cajah’s Mountain Town Hall and on the surrounding property. It would not apply on the public streets surrounding that property.
“We’re not trying to tell people what they can and cannot do – just what they can and cannot do on town property,” Town Manager Connie South said.
The idea of banning smoking came about as South and Mayor Ronnie Setzer saw more and more cigarette butts on the property surrounding town hall, South said.
Town employees in violation of the policy will be referred to their supervisor, and contractors to their employer, according to the policy. Visitors will be asked to leave the property if they refuse to follow the policy when asked, and event organizers using town-owned property will be banned from any further use of the property.
Also on Tuesday, the town council approved a $37,500 bid from Midstate Contractors Inc. for construction and paving at town hall’s extra parking lot. MidState Contractors’ was the only bid the town received for the project.
