New principal welcomed to West Caldwell
Faculty, staff and school board members arrived at West Caldwell High School on a rainy Thursday to show their support for Andy Puhl, who took over as principal of the high school.
Puhl replaced Jeff Link and said the transition was quick but has gone smoothly.
“It’s been going great,” Puhl said. “I’m ready for the kids to come back. It’s a really great place here, . . . and I’m just excited to be a part of it.”
Puhl previously worked as the principal for Hudson Elementary School, principal at Happy Valley School and assistant principal for South Caldwell High School. He and his wife, Heather, have an 8-year-old son, Nathan. They live in Hudson.
“West Caldwell has a very strong tradition athletically and academically,” Puhl said. “Jeff Link left things in a good place, so I look forward to continuing that and building from there.”
Command Master Chief Petty Officer Wayne Mihelich, the JROTC teacher at West Caldwell, said that, with his military background, he is used to seeing bosses come and go but that Puhl has pulled off the switch.
“Everything that I’ve seen of Andy, I think that he will do very, very well,” Mihelich said. “He cares, and it’s easy to see. What I’ve seen with Andy, he’s doing the same thing and making sure we’re taken care of and the students are taken care of.”
