The new principal of Oak Hill School was greeted with the buzzing of students, parents, faculty and school board members Tuesday night at a meet-and-greet session at the school.

Chris Ackerman welcomed everyone into “The Hive” of Oak Hill with a spread of goodies, including punch, pretzels, candy bags, pigs in a blanket and cookies. Ackerman was an assistant principal at South Caldwell High School before being appointed as principal of Oak Hill in July.

“I plan to bring the community back into the school and the school back into the community. It’s twofold,” Ackerman said.

Ackerman said he has received a welcome like no other and already feels at home before school has even started.

“(It has been a) very warm reception, welcoming. The teachers are supportive, loving and kind. I’m thankful. There are so many words,” Ackerman said.

Students who showed up Tuesday night were not disappointed by their new principal.

Colby Franklin, 13, said, “I think he’s pretty nice. I think he’ll help out a lot.”

Parents were also pleased and shared their enthusiasm for Ackerman.

“I’ve heard lots of good things,” Misty Goodman said, mother of student Macy Goodman, 10.
