Granite Falls man arrested for failing to pay state taxes
The N.C. Department of Revenue has charged a Granite Falls man with failing to pay his taxes after an investigation by the department’s Criminal Investigations Section.
Arrest warrants issued for Kevin Mitchell Atkinson, 55, of 3523 Dry Ponds Road, state he failed to pay state individual income tax returns from 2009-11, said Jocelyn Andrews, director of tax enforcement. Atkinson was charged on Feb. 20 with three counts of willful failure to file. He appeared before a Catawba County magistrate and jailed under a $4,500 secured bond.
Willful failure to file is a Class 1 misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of 120 days in jail for each count, Andrews said.
A first-appearance hearing was scheduled for April 4 in Wake County District Court in Raleigh.
