Firefighters had little trouble putting out a fire that started in a back bedroom of a vacant house off Blowing Rock Boulevard around 11 a.m. Saturday. The fire caused moderate damage to the house, said Patterson Fire Chief Reggie Ford.

The house, behind the Blue Ridge Mountain Stop convenience store about a mile north of Waterfalls Road, is owned by Glenn and Patricia Kincaid and was being remodeled.

The couple were working in the store when a customer told them there was smoke coming out of the house. The exact cause of the fire is being investigated by the fire marshal’s office.
