Police say a man tried to use a rope to choke his girlfriend but instead used his hands to choke her three times, each time causing her pass out.

Ronald Eugene Billings Jr., 38, is accused of assaulting his girlfriend, 35-year-old Heather Aubainn early Sunday morning. An arrest order stated Billings, of 9 Laurel St. also forced Aubain's head against a refrigerator and slid her face down the refrigerator and onto the floor, kneed Aubain in the face and pushing her into the walls and floor of the home, causing severe bruising around the right cheekbone, eye socket, back and shoulders, Chief Ritch Bolick said.

Billings was arrested later Sunday and charged with felony assault by strangulation, assault with a deadly weapon, and assault on a female. He was jailed, and in a hearing Monday in Caldwell District Court his bond was set at $25,000.
