Shakeup at gastro-pub may bring another brewery

Lenoir might gain a second brewery after a parting of the ways at a Granite Falls restaurant.

Stephen Loe had partnered with Mario Mastroeli to open Granite Falls Brewing Co., a popular gastro-pub that opened about seven months ago in the former Pepsi-Cola bottling plant off Duke Street. Loe served as executive chef, and his father, Robert Loe, was chief financial officer.

On Feb. 10, Granite Falls Brewing bought out the Loes' shares and on Feb. 15 hired a new brewmaster, Zach Hart, who previously was brewmaster at Heist Brewery in Charlotte since 2012 and was head brewer at The Mash House Brewery and Chophouse in Fayetteville.

Stephen Low is now seeking to open a brewery in the Lenoir area, Robert Loe said.

"We're still looking for a future site and scouted several locations but have not commited to one location yet," Robert Loe said.

Stephen Loe had been making and selling craft beers to area restaurants and locals since 2011, and served as executive chef at Bistro 127 in Hickory before coming to Granite Falls Brewing.
